NHS Tender Strategy
Navigating NHS tenders and national frameworks requires a deep understanding of procurement structures, pricing dynamics and competitive behaviour across the UK. The Healthonauts have supported multiple brands through successful tender and framework submissions across all four UK home nations, including complex hospital and plasma-derived markets.
We advise on the commercial and strategic aspects of NHS tenders, helping organisations develop clear, defensible approaches to pricing, value articulation and competitive positioning. Our support balances commercial ambition with NHS realities, ensuring submissions are robust, credible and aligned with evaluation criteria.
Our experience includes:
-
Tender and framework strategy across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
-
Commercial and pricing strategy aligned to procurement rules and portfolio objectives
-
Competitive strategy and scenario planning to maximise win probability
-
Support with Green credentialling and sustainability narratives, increasingly influential in NHS decision-making
-
Strategic input into stakeholder engagement and relationship building with procurement bodies, clinicians and key influencers
We work closely with internal teams to ensure tender strategies are fully integrated with launch plans, supply considerations and longer-term portfolio objectives, reducing execution risk and supporting sustainable access.
Tender example
We supported a plasma-derived medicinal product (PDMP) through a national NHS framework submission in a highly competitive environment where price differences between bidders were marginal.
Although headline price is a significant part of the tender, we focused on critical secondary variables that strongly influence PDMP tender outcomes. These included pack and presentation assumptions, supply and service commitments aligned to NHS operational requirements, competitive positioning and Green credential responses.
With only limited adjustments to headline price, the submission achieved enhanced tender scoring and framework positioning, demonstrating how disciplined attention to detail can decisively influence NHS tender outcomes.
